Then at least you could have hired a bunch more actors, for cheaper, told the whole story(Or a much larger portion of it) and split it up to span all the books, IE: told the WHOLE story.<br/><br/>What the hell was this? I can't even think this is part of the books other than maybe this was just another random chapter from 'the eyes of another Jake' kinda thing. This was NOT the dark tower.<br/><br/>Sure maybe a 'new' story based on the books, but this wasn't even a tiny bit of what was in the books, wasn't any part of the story already told.<br/><br/>SK if u read these reviews, just saying you would have made a lot of your fans much happier if you had doneI think you should have, sold (or rented) the idea out to Netflix to produce it. Would prob have been cheaper, and you could have split it into 3(or more) seasons and told the WHOLE story, and I am sure, if the story was told using the booksa script, you would have snagged a crap-ton of NEW viewers who would have generated you even MORE royalties by buying the books, introduce a whole new generation(or two) to the dark tower series(And all the other books that tie into it) This movie, disappointment is an understatement. I mean I can't even go so farcalling you a 'sellout', because I am sure your not gonna make too much off this mass of garbage.
This film spent a decade in production hell and anyone who has read the series knows that to call it unfilmable is an understatement. It is a genre bending sci-fi western fantasy supernatural horror time travel tale that takes place in an interdimensional multi-verse that includes our own Keystone Earth with visits all over those other worlds. Even knowing where to start filming this could take 6 months to debate. This isn't a perfect movie and it is going to mystify a lot of people that need everything explained to them or a box to put it in. A lot of people will dismiss thatbad filmmaking. I thought they captured the essence of the story and laid down some good groundwork. It is a brisk 95 minutes but it felt over 2 hours, and it is a rare film where that is a compliment. I had LOW expectations. I've followed the making of this thing since the start and there have been some decisions that were… questionable. I walked away mildly impressed. And in this case that is probably high praise. I won't be recommending it to anyone that isn't familiar with the books. In short: I liked it, but I was willing to give it a chance. I hope it gets a sequel and they can start filling in the worlds without all the exposition that was necessary to get this one moving.
Though satisfying enough to please many casual moviegoers drawn in by King's name and stars Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, it will likely disappoint many serious fans and leave other newbies underwhelmed.
The Dark Tower is based on the seven novels that collectively make up the The Dark Tower series, written by Stephen King. The first is called The Gunslinger, followed by The Drawing of the Three, The Waste Lands, Wizard and Glass, Wolves of the Calla, Song of Susannah, and The Dark Tower. Stephen King recently announced an eighth book, The Wind in the Keyhole, to be set between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla. There is also a short story involving Roland entitled "The Little Sisters of Eluria."
